On June 19, Lauren Henderson, the internationally famed Latin jazz vocalist, kicked off the West Stockbridge Historical Society’s jazz series on the outdoor stage at The Foundry in West Stockbridge.
The virtuosity of her voice ranged from sultry love songs to a barely contained roar as she made her way through jazz classics and her own memorable compositions. The evening was a welcome and powerful signal that cultural life in the Berkshires is truly returning to normal after 16 months of lockdown. Accompanying Henderson were Dean Torrey, bass; Isaac Wilson, piano; Dor Herskovits, drums; and Edmar Colon, saxophone.
The event was sponsored by the West Stockbridge Historical Society, in collaboration with The Foundry, as part of its 2021–22 live jazz concert series. Berkshire audiences can look forward to a full and varied schedule, with performances by Ned Rothenberg, Armen Donelian, and Yoko Miwa.
